Joan Mila Brut nature


As Joan Nebot, wine critic, says in one of his recent articles, our sparkling wine was the first Penedès “champagne”. We are concerned here with a wine with a secondary fermentation in the same bottle (Traditional method), a blend of the French variety Chardonnay with the quintessential variety native to our region, Xarel·lo. The latter is one of the oldest varieties grown on the Mediterranean.

Xarel·lo is the most commonly grown variety in the DO Penedès and has adapted extremely well at our vineyard of 40 hectares. At Mas Comtal, we have 15 hectares of Xarel·lo over 50 years old, providing qualitative production year after year that is accentuated with time. Chardonnay was planted on our vineyard for the first time in 1982, responding successfully. It brings great elegance and aging potential to our “champagne”.


Vinificació: Mètode tradicional; segona fermentació en botella.

Criança: Un mínim de 15 mesos.

Per prendre-se’l durant tot un àpat, des de l’aperitiu fins a les postres. Especialment recomanat amb un bon pernil, amb carns al forn o amb un formatge brie.

Color palla brillant, vora tonalitat verda.. Aroma fruita madura, herbes de muntanya, especiat. Boca afruitada , saborós,dolcesa, amargs, balsàmic. (Guia Peñin 2008)
“Oro viejo. De media intensidad, sobresalen aromas de fruta escarchada, carne de membrillo, finos tostados, recuerdos de mantequilla y balsámicos. Fresco y de grato paso, sobresalen notas de naranja confitada, pan grillé y grato final amargoso.”(Guía de vinos Gourmets 2010)
