Petrea Merlot

31,50 70,00

Wine made from Merlot grapes from the plot called “La Feixa Llarga,” a Merlot vineyard planted in 1982. It is the oldest Merlot vineyard. The 2015 harvest was characterized by an extremely dry and hot summer period, following the pattern of recent years. The resulting harvest produced musts with abundant coloring matter and tannins. Once the first part of the winemaking process was completed, the wine was placed in new French oak barrels with medium toast for approximately 12 months.

Characteristics

Winemaking
After passing the grapes through the de-stemmer to separate the berry from the stem, they are cooled and the must is placed in stainless steel tanks, where it ferments at a temperature of 22-24ºC. The maceration with the must lasts for about 20 days, allowing us to extract a sufficient dose of phenolic structure.
Prior to barrel aging, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, which imparts a more elegant acidity to the wine.

Aging
Once the first part of the winemaking process is complete, the wine is placed in new 300-liter barrels made from oak sourced from the forests in central France. This time, with a medium toast and for approximately 15 months. The wine gains in harmony and subtlety. Aromatically, the wine showcases spicy notes and balsamic touches imparted by the barrel.
